Mind maps are great tools to depict different relationships between objects. In fact, mind maps allow you to go beyond two-dimensional mapping.

I prefer to do mind maps on paper or whiteboards. I find software applications get in the way of the process. I often use a modified version of mind mapping for taking notes.

Draw a line diagonally across a sheet of paper and label the line, using the subject, theme or problem. Then start branching out from the main line. You can easily work yourself into four or five levels of branches.

By using a free-hand tool, I allow my mind to work unhindered by the process. The process of creating links or branches also work at building the connections in my mind. Finally, the visual aspect of mind mapping is appealing and memorable.

How do you fit mind mapping in your life, Luis?

Thanks for sharing
I also prefer to draw on a sheet of paper although, once created, I use software
This process allows a review of these created maps and eventually the creation of new branches.

I prefer to use this tool in group dynamics

Mind mapping is a fascinating way to capture and share ideas/solutions with diverse team member. This technique greatly improves the learning, communications, productivity, and also helps with memorization & retention.

I use them on small scale activities within projects. They are good collaboration and communication tools, shows the overall structure of complex thoughts and can be helpful in delivering presentations.

However, sometimes, it is difficult to communicate a shared understanding of a mind map especially for complex ones so better keep it simple.

In fact, I replied to both of your questions in my response earlier:

Results: Good Collaboration + Helpful in Delivery Presentations

Difficulty: It can become cumbersome with much details on it and will be difficult to communicate a shared understanding.

I use mindmaps to visualise WBS and dependencies for scheduling. I've had limited success in using it with teams mainly due to the lack of suitable display systems so the team can see the whole picture and lack of drag and drop (touch) on large screens (changes in technology mean I should probably try again).

Dear Ashleigh
Thank you for participating in this reflection and for your opinion.

Did you notice the approach Stéphane takes when using this tool?

Once done on paper and as a team you can create a computer prohrama

The big challenge is when we are working with teams around the world
