Hi Luis,
Really it is a good question!
Mindset show the inside of any person in the front of any situation, I can say is a reaction from a situation.
Mindset can get a significant impact on work in the positive or negative side.
In my opinion the best way to control and improve or mindset is:
keep smilling
reduce stress by probably read books, study etc
always ask questions to our self, am I doing right? try to evaluate based on other comments, starting this way can raise the positive side.
it is very complicated topic, I think it need more time to be developed.
Thanks

For me, mindset is everything in a project. The mindset of the Project Manager can make or break a project.
I do think that we all have the capacity to change our mindset based on our willingness and ability to do so... But perhaps the most important thing is realising that there is a problem with your mindset in the first place.
I've coached several people through this and the hardest part is for them understanding that there is a problem.
I've also seen PMOs work actively on the "attitude" of their PMs in building strong teams and delivering successful projects. Saving Changes...
Hello Lewis,
great questions....
I will try to put my thoughts one by one:
- What does Mindset mean to you?
For me mindset this frame of our mind; the way we think and approach to some topic.
To what extent can Project Manager Mindset affect project outcomes?
I think it could be significant; different people with different mindset can approach to same problem in different ways. This could be positive or negative to the project. There is no straightforward right or wrong here. But it can have influence based on the experience , knowledge and approach.
Can we change our Mindset?
I believe yes, but it needs significant effort. it needs more of a coaching; where people need to put in particular situation and a continuous feedback is going back to them. Saving Changes...
Mindset is the preconceived notions or opinions that a project manager may have about a certain workplace, approach to a project, industry or sector. This mindset can be built up from a number of sources such as previous experience, talking to former employees, from other professional and work colleagues, website and other research areas. Being able to match your persona, approach and professionalism according to the environment that a project manager works in in a specific project is fundamental important to the overall success of a project. As a result a project managers mindset should grow in clarity and visions as they grow in experience and stature within the project management community. Saving Changes...

Luis,
The definition of Mindset: the established set of attitudes held by someone.
What does Mindset mean to you?
A calling to lead people on the right path to achieve results.
To what extent can Project Manager Mindset affect project outcomes?
It can have very positive effects if the PM is open-minded and negative if the PM is a dictator.
Can we change our Mindset?
Yes, we should always be a work in progress. Satisfaction is temporary. Saving Changes...

Mindset: Agree with Ola (The mindset is a mental state and a collection of thoughts and beliefs that can shape habits, and reactions.), like Mark's synonym of attitude, reflect on wikipedia (set of assumptions, methods, notations held by individuals or groups), it is a mental state.
I have seen many mindsets being useful and many not so useful for making projects & programs work. I argue with Sergio Pellegrinelli that successful project and program managers have totally different mindsets (he made a survey about that).
I have seen very successful PMs having a fixed mindset, risk-averse, fighting changes and pushing people to contain scope, cost and milestones and convincing customers of what they should want.
In a program environment, leaders have to be more open, anticipating but also political.
Ok, I read about growth mindset, agile mindset, now disciplined agile mindset (3 beliefs in complexity, people and proactivity). As a project manager, we have to be able to apply any mindset, as it is appropriate for the situation.
In the end a mindset is based on beliefs, like sects and churches are. Add a often seen passion and you have a dangerous mix of indeed having another kind of fixed mindset.
Lastly, our mindsets for projects are all based on our western culture of achievement, our calvinistic heritage, our priority on hard work and belief in human rationality. There are other cultures in the world, we are more diverse and that makes me hope. Saving Changes...
The definition of mindset seems to be clear and almost unanimous and I concur, so I'll skip that. For me, there is a direct and inescapable relationship between the mindset of the PM (amongst others as well) and the success of the project. It is like cause and effect - the fundamental law of the universe. The best, and most successful projects that I have seen are PMs who excel at being natural leaders. Unfortunately, they are the minority, and most PMs "fit" the role assigned to them. Also, the culture, and leadership of the organization has a direct and inescapable linkage to those that work under/ within them, including PMs. I've seen far too many examples of monkey see, monkey do in organizations, where PMs often have only one goal - appease the desires of those who are in charge, so that I may one day be in charge - a very dangerous cycle that has literally ruined untold organizations. Mindset gives the outcome..either it may be positive or negative...Positive outcomes comes as a result of strong mind set and vice versa...Therefore one can make a mark in his/her own terms
Coming to project management perspective ...Bringing the mindset to adopt to PMBOK Guide makes one project manager to follow the right standards and make the work easier Saving Changes...

Do you think PARADIGMA and MINDSET mean the same?
What's the difference?

Luis -
I believe one's mindset contains a number of paradigms. For example, if one behaves like a Theory X manager, their mind may hold the paradigm that workers are lazy and need to be micro-managed.

Dear Kiron
Thanks for your comment
We should not be talking about the same Mindset (concept proposed by its creator: Carol S. Dweck)
Interestingly, one of the reasons that led me to create this topic was that I consider that the term Mindset is used differently from its dawn proposal)
