I heard and read this word being used differently from the proposal by its author Carol S. Dweck

What does Mindset mean to you?

To what extent can Project Manager Mindset affect project outcomes?

Can we change our Mindset?

Thank you Luis! For me,
Mindset = begins with you (internal) whereas
Paradigm = shifts into you/your mind (external)

What does Mindset mean to you? - Very strong beliefs... if you have that belief or faith you can make things happen.

To what extent can Project Manager Mindset affect project outcomes? - If Project Manager (or influencer) is able to bring in positive mindset among the team and its stakeholders, project will see good outcome. We may have seen few historical events (I can think of war outcomes when the army was outnumbered) which were changed by mindset alone. Some for good, others for worse.

Can we change our Mindset? - In today's world, we have to be open minded and with strong mindset, we should be able to change our mindset to better thought process.

AS a project manager your mind has to be focused (mindset) on project delivery. You need to do whatever is necessary within the rules to deliver. I tend to be risk driven - manage the risks and benefits be they internal, external, personal, or whatever. To do so you have to thoroughly understand what the project is about, what the objectives are, the priorities, the constraints and the authorities. Every action, every decision as a project manager has to relate to and traced back to the project mission. If your mindset is not project delivery, find another vocation. This does not mean that you don't work with the project staff and stakeholders, it means you do so to benefit the project. If, as a project manager you have functional responsibilities (HR and technical SME) that's a separate consideration and you need two hats. The functional requirements should not, can not, impact on your PM responsibilities.

Mindset is the way of interpreting past and present circumstances and imagining the potential future.

A project manager's mindset is inseparable from project outcome. a growth mindset is uplifting, evokes optimism, and drives positive momentum, especially when a project is suddenly mired in some negative events.

Mindset can certainly change, probably not an overnight transition though.
