In preparation of an 18 hours training on Project Management, what would be the key components to focus on in such a limited time frame. The participants are from diverse backgrounds with a majority of them being in operations with a few involved in projects.

What will be the best approach and what areas should the facilitator focus on?

All tips and advice is appreciated.

3 days is enough to do a high level coverage of most knowledge areas with a deeper dive into scope, schedule and cost.

You will need to decide whether you will cover both predictive and adaptive lifecycles or just one of those as that will dictate how deep you go.

I would also suggest a 50/50 split between theory and hands on exercises.

Thank you for your feedback and suggestion.

I'm thinking of covering both predictive and adaptive lifecycles Im sure this can help the participants clearly understand the different approaches.

Dear Handirove

Interesting your question
Thanks for sharing

In addition to addressing some general project management concepts and taking a high-level approach to processes and knowledge areas, I believe you can delve into (always in perspective theoretical and exercises) Scope, Schedule, Costs and Risks.

Personally, I would prefer to replace the Cost with the Project Charter and Stakeholder Management

Dear Luis

Thank you. I am thinking of putting more emphasis on the Project Charter in addition to the Cost, Schedule, and Scope Management. I'm noticing these form the integral concept of project management regardless of the background.

Dear Abolfazl

Thanks. Maybe some knowledge areas will be done in summary. I want to avoid just a review of the concepts but an in-depth rundown using exercises and practical applications.

If you are preparing the training for a boot camp, you should ensure that you'll cover all the knowledge areas + ethics + tips and trick to prepare the test.

I would start risk management as every thing else can spin off from it. The reason one manages projects (anything for that matter) is to 1) identify and mitigate risk and 2) enhance benefits - in other words increase probability of project delivery success. Why would one manage something if there were no risks nor opportunity to enhance benefit?
