Is the project you are currently managing FABULOUS, FANTASTIC, SPECTACULAR, EXCITING (for yourself, for the team, for the customer) or is it a J.A.M.S.?

What does J.A.M.S. mean? Just Another Mediocre Success

I'm interested in seeing the responses to this thread, Luis!

A PM is expected to be a cheerleader for their project and if they aren't enthusiastic about it, that lack of excitement is likely to be contagious and will infect their team members.

Often, it is the difference between the janitor feeling they are just cleaning up other people's messes and the janitor who believes they are creating a safe environment for their colleagues.

Dear Kiron
Thank you for participating in this reflection and for your opinion.

I am also very curious to read what members of this community say about the projects they are managing

Even if the current project you are managing was a J.A.M.S do you think they would say yes? :-)

What does J.A.M.S refer to exactly ? I googled it but couldn't find anything.

The projects I am currently managing are challenging but also exciting and fabulous as they serve the community at the end of the day so everyone is excited to see them up and running.

Good question, Luis! If someone were to call their project a JAMS the question raised would be why haven't you done something to address or avoid that?

Trust me, I am details oriented, and I read your question and what you mentioned about JAMS and what it means but I did not really understand what you wrote.

Still don't understand but that's fine, I will get it maybe one day :-)

First of all, let’s agree that “FABULOUS, FANTASTIC, SPECTACULAR, EXCITING” are Point of views and Not measurables. In project management I believe in KPIs and numbers (scope, time, cost and quality).

Furthermore, It is hard to have all your projects as F.F.S.E. Yes, it is good to have them like this, although, the real life Scenarios will lead you to accept J.A.M.S.

80/20 rule will be good model here. I believe it is amazing If you can manage 20% of your projects to be F.F.S.E. and the remaining 80% to be J.A.M.S. let’s now forget that’s mean 100% success rate for a project manager which is rarely happen.

Dear Salem
Thank you for participating in this reflection and for your opinion.

If you only measure% of scope, cost versus budget or timeframe versus schedule you cannot measure FABULOUS, FANTASTIC, SPECTACULAR, EXCITING

We agree that: "What can be measured can be improved" - Peter Drucker
or that
"What cannot be measured cannot be managed" - William Edwards Deming

I leave you a challenge here.
How can we measure FABULOUS, FANTASTIC, SPECTACULAR, EXCITING for the team, the project manager and the customers and / or users of the product / service?

Have you seen the "nightmare" of spending 80% of your time managing J.A.M.S. projects?

How can a J.A.M.S. project be transformed in F.F.S.E?

Dear Kiron
Thanks for your comment

One thing I'm sure
There are many products and / or services on the market.
Some cannot be said to be FABULOUS, FANTASTIC, SPECTACULAR, EXCITING

Others are a real customer nightmare

Why didn't anyone ask before?

What about the sparkle in the eyes of the people who design these products and / or services?

Looks like my level of understanding and comprehension is not very high and intelligent enough for such a highly sophisticated and complex subject so I will excuse myself from this discussion thread.

Thank You !
