Is the project you are currently managing FABULOUS, FANTASTIC, SPECTACULAR, EXCITING (for yourself, for the team, for the customer) or is it a J.A.M.S.?

What does J.A.M.S. mean? Just Another Mediocre Success

Dear Kiron
How do you relate this issue of J.A.M.S. with the need to safeguard Psychological Safety
Luis -

In organizations where the prevailing culture reflects low psychological safety, folks will value short-term personal safety over long-term considerations. In such cases, projects which should have been called out as failures and not worth continuing to invest in will continue to be funded well past their "due date".

One of the challenges for a project manager is to manage expectations. This is an ongoing effort to ensure all stakeholders: owner, users, team members, etc., recognize what the end result will be before we get there. There should be no disappointments or unsatisfied needs at the end although the end may not be exactly as initially anticipated. We typically do surveys during project implementation as well as on completion. The 'during surveys' allow us to adjust on the fly, the 'completion surveys' are used in lessons learned. We aim for perfection but typically settle for Good' to 'Very Good'. Always room for improvement.

Challenging and interesting is what I look for, F,F,S and E don't mean too much for me from a project management perspective. Different people have different thoughts on what makes something F,F,S or E. Having a job may be Fabulous, getting paid at a senior level may be Fantastic, having a 55th floor office may be Spectacular, presenting the project to management may be Exciting ... to some. Give me a challenge and something interesting to work on however you define it and i'm happy.

Be the change we'd like to see - model the right kinds of behavior and encourage our PMs and team members to call out irreversible erosion to the forecast benefits from projects.

Dear Luis,
I think no project in this word is perfect, there are many issues and as PM our role is to get things done with minimum of issues.
In my opinion the best way is to influence people, we need to advertise best practices in the mind of people to get the results expected.
My last experience was in the worst project in the word ( what people think) but for me was the best one, best challenge, what I can say everything was wrong from the beginning, we end up by a nice start-up which most of people didn't believe ttill now, it was not easy but we did our best to change, influencing people,
FYI I left this project last week convainced that I complet my mission with sucess
for me : J.A.M.S. is the best challenge to take
best regards
Hamid

I like the thought of Gandhi very much: "Be the change you want to see in the world"

Have you some ideas on what can do the project manager (specific actions) to make your projects FABULOUS, FANTASTIC, SPECTACULAR, EXCITING

Dear Vincent
Thank you for participating in this reflection and for your opinion.

Can you do something like Project Manager to make your projects FABULOUS, FANTASTIC, SPECTACULAR, EXCITING (for you, the team, the customer)?
