Is actively participating in ProjectManagement.com considered to be voluntary by PMI?

When we participate in activities developed by PMI chapters we receive, at the end of each year, a certificate of volunteer

But for this to happen (get the certificate) the chapter has to create a V.R.M.S.

What is the process here at ProjectManagement.com?

Dear Kiron
Thank you for your opinion

I suppose you participate in this community on a voluntary basis.

Your input is awesome on the forum (Q&A), blog and video production

Sure you devote a lot of time to this community

Did PMI recognize your participation by awarding you a certificate of volunteer?

A person who supports the Conference Project Manager in Chapter (2 days) is recognized by PMI.
The only criterion for this to happen is that chapter creates a VRMS
And the chapters issue the VRMS

While formal recognition is nice, I'm fine with the informal recognition I get from the community members and engagement specialists.

Elevating my profile and brand is way more valuable to me than a "special" certificate (although some PMI swag is always nice :-) ).

Dear Kiron
Thanks for your response

If there are people who deserve formal recognition for the dedication, presence, invaluable contribution to this community, Kiron is one of them.

In my personal name, I render you my formal tribute

Thanks, Luis.

Thanks for the clarification. No, there is a clear distinction between volunteering and contributing. Activity on this platform is more contributory. It's through a passion for the profession that active members take time to contribute back to the profession without the carrot of a certificate.

Is there a need to validate the time spent contributing with a certificate?

Dear Andrew
Thanks for this comment

Any genuine volunteering activity is done without waiting for recognition

On the other hand, it's always nice to have feedbak

I will give an example:
I was one of the two sponsors of the PMI Portugal Toastmasters Club

Toastmasters sent me a certificate of recognition signed by the CEO

I was not sponsor of the Club to be recognized ... but I liked :-)

Dear Andrew
Thank you for participating in this reflection and for your opinion.

When I created this topic (as that subject is perfectly clear) it was not to reflect on PDU's

This topic is about PMI recognition as a volunteer for participating in ProjectManagement.com
Luis, by the way, it was not my intention to misinterpret your question....re. (as that subject is perfectly clear)

Dear Andrew
I created this topic following a conversation (topic) created by George.

Would new members of our community participate more if they were recognized as PMI volunteers?

Just to let you all know my participation is purely selfish. I read what others are thinking, I see what others have to say about my thinking and I get to explain (attempt anyway) my thinking to myself and others (mostly myself). This allows me to grow. If others grow from this exercise as well, so much the better.

Dear Peter
Thank you for participating in this reflection and for your opinion.

It happens to all of us ... growing through interaction (experts have termed it collaborative learning)

Does this invalidate that it was good to be recognized by PMI as a volunteer?

Generally recognition is good. However by recognizing a few you may alienate the many. Especially in a larger organization where recognition becomes political or based on personal preference or faulty intelligence. I have been in organizations that single out individuals for awards or recognition and have seen two responses: 1) the unrecognized feel left out, disappointed or at worst angered, and 2) the process becomes meaningless and ignored outside of the promoters. In either case it demotivates. My preference is to encourage "thank you" when good things happen and focus on teams rather than individuals.

Dear Peter
Thanks for your feedback

The idea was for PMI to recognize all volunteers who actively participated in ProjectManagement.com

Today using technology it is possible to recognize all
