Organizations may opt to develop PMIS's and define it as something else such as Business Planning system. There can be buy-in as everyone can agree to systematic processes but the challenges is to develop unilateral processes everyone can agree and support. Cultural driven organizations can thrive but others may actually create barriers and differences delaying and derailing leadership goals.

Azrul -

The advantages are fairly well understood in terms of reduction of manual effort, consistency of presentation and reporting and so on.

The disadvantages include:

+ Total cost of ownership
+ Garbage in, garbage out both in terms of accuracy and currency of data
+ Lack of customization to fit reporting needs of different stakeholders

Kiron
Kiron,

I would put garbage in garbage out on both manual and PMIS.

Very true, Vincent, but the greater risk with a PMIS is because it has "sexy dashboards", senior leadership might be enthralled or more willing to accept the garbage without verifying its accuracy...

Kiron, that is also very true that "sexy dashboards" or "Sexy Reports" don't get has much questioning.

On the other hand, you can make a "sexy Dashboards" for a non-PMIS system, reducing questioning.
