I am tasked with creating a PMO to better standardize, organize, and streamline our project management program. I have been successful in conducting internal stakeholder interviews and producing a credible PMO Charter now signed off and distributed by the CEO. I am now moving on to creating a Project Procedural Manual as a deliverable for the Charter. This will define the project management methodologies, templates, and guides for PMs (and other affected entities) within our company.

Is there a doc template or similar guide or examples aligned with PMBOK that would assist me in creating such a beast? I could create one from scratch, but would not like to have to reinvent the wheel from the ground up.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks!

One thing I have also have learned is to compare the outcomes on the completion of a project to the original time, cost and scope identified in the signed off business case/project charter at the beginning of a project.

This can identify obvious gaps in an organization's project management processes and produce some very valuable lessons learned which can be integrated into your Project Procedural Guide/Project Management Methdology Guide.

A final comment - "Few organizations view the creation, update and maintenance of a project management methodology as one of their core business competencies".

Hi there. I developed an internal Project Management Methodology (PMM) Guide for my federal govt department. I aligned it to the PMBOK and our Federal govt I.T framework 4 stage waterfall methodology. Its about 50 pages in size. Was NOT an easy task to do by one person. I also created a WBS project schedule in MS-Project format containing about 400 WBS activities and aligned it to the PMM guide. The WBS project schedule saves a lots of time for the project teams...Leo
Is there any chance you still have a copy of this document that you would be willing to share? My email address is [email protected]

Wonderful news.

I've posted on this many times; you can search on some of my posts for this information.

Certainly, don't reinvent the wheel but make sure you understand your culture, governance and get buyin/input from your stakeholders on development of the guide.

Good luck.

Hi Naomi-

I certainly do not want to recreate the wheel is there any chance you can share you PMO policy and Procedures with me to get an idea how to begin writing them for my organization.
Thanks

Leo,
Leo,

Hi there. I am responding to your internal Project Management Methodology (PMM) Guide you created for my federal govt department.

I am working for the city and we are also if you would be willing to share? We are reorganizing our department in a more PMO structure and this setup would prove to a valuable asset.

[email protected] or [email protected]
or if possible to send to both emails in case one does not go through.

Thank you so much

Hi Naomi,

I was wondering if there is a link to the Sample manual you were referring to in response Randal Carlton's request. I am in the process of developing the same document. Your help will be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

Christian.

Hi:
Many folks are asking me for a PMO Procedure Manual. My first question to you is have you done research to find examples that fit your organization? I mentioned that there are posts that you can search here on this site to find many my posts with this information. You want to work with your sponsors, PMO manager and PMs to define what is required short term and long term. You can search on this site for many examples and on the web for many public examples. You may also reach out to other PMOs in your organization to find out of there are examples that already exist.~N.
