We have done several things over the past couple of years in our organization to attempt to improve collaboration. We co-located many of the HQ based folks to a diffrent project support center. We have co-located team members for specific activities such as design review and product test. We put in place SharePoint recently. In September, Our organization will go through a remodel aimed at improving team collaboration.
What other things can be done? How can we improve the collaboration across the teams? How do we help folks get the most productivity out of their already busy days? How do we get the most out of our global model? Saving Changes...
In addition to using share point, have a configuration management system for managing sources! Maintain a wiki for sharing knowledge/posting project related questions and also maintain some how to documents etc.... Have periodic meetings (video conference).

Hi Manjur,
One tactic that I would like to share, is to ask for suggestions f rom those who are concerned about the lack of collaboration. We have a survey to ascertain the issue and impacts at hand. Afterwards we ask for volunteers for improvement teams, we empower the improvement teams with a couple of constraints around funding and realism. The team is given an opportunity to recommend their ideas among leaders of the organization, and if the idea is good given the known constraints, the leaders help to empower the process improvement team to make the idea a reality.
This has been very successful for me, hopefully it will have the same success for yourself.
