Are you obsessed with the deadline?

What about the other stakeholders of your project?

The general idea is: there is no place to procrastinate / curl up in pursuit of great "dreams"

The haughty "dreamers" I met were also at the top of the Pragmatism Scale: they are determined to conduct real tests to monopolize real customers.

Um ok. I got lost after the first sentence, so let me stick with that one. I guess being OCD I would count myself as obsessed with a lot of things.

Dear Sante
Thank you for participating in this reflection and for your opinion.

What led you to get lost after the first sentence?

Can I help you find yourself?

You made me laugh reading: "I guess being OCD I would count myself as obsessed with a lot of things."

No - project management is about juggling a number of flaming objects at the same time, not just one. Obsessing about anything in project management implies putting blinders on which means we are likely to get blindsided.

Like Sante, you lost me with the last two sentences in your question...

Luis,

I wouldn’t say that I’m obsessed with my deadlines, however, they do scare me at times as historically one would face bodily harm if they were crossed. For that reason, we should always respect them as you never know when they might have a breakdown and regress to their previous state.

So, give them the respect they deserve, and be sure to salute them as they pass you by.

:)

After the first line, I got lost with Sante and Kiron (The Lost Trio).

I don't obsess over deadlines, they are important but not a bible. I obsess over what matters most which is delivering value to the clients.

Dear Rami
Thank you for participating in this reflection and for your opinion.

Interestingly, he wrote: "I'm obsessed with what matters most: delivering value to customers."

Is the deadline integrated into what we might call value?

Hi Luís,

I don't consider myself obsessed, but I focus on delivering within the defined deadline.

However, the importance of fulfilling the deadline depends on project's objectives. There are projects where delivering value is way more important that the deadline, and that is supported by the stakeholders/sponsors.

Regarding the pragmatic dreamers, I love them!

The deadline is not included in the value?

It depends, it’s a case by case. Sometimes you have to extend some deadline or deliver earlier in other cases in order to deliver the right value at the right time and this case, sticking to the original timeline won’t add as much value as it would if it was reconsidered.

Hope this clarifies.
