Are you obsessed with the deadline?

What about the other stakeholders of your project?

The general idea is: there is no place to procrastinate / curl up in pursuit of great "dreams"

The haughty "dreamers" I met were also at the top of the Pragmatism Scale: they are determined to conduct real tests to monopolize real customers.

Hi Luís,

I don't consider myself obsessed, but I focus on delivering within the defined deadline.

However, the importance of fulfilling the deadline depends on project's objectives. There are projects where delivering value is way more important that the deadline, and that is supported by the stakeholders/sponsors.

Regarding the pragmatic dreamers, I love them!

Let's imagine what it would be:
- From Expo 98 if the deadline was not met
- From the football world championship if the deadline was not met
- Of the Olympic Games if the deadline was not met
- From the Super Bowl if the deadline was not met

First I like Kiron's "project management is about juggling a number of flaming objects at the same time". Nice way to think about it. I'm not obsessed deadlines but what makes me feel secure in missing them, when we happen to, is to keep a full set of bread crumbs so we can fully explain the miss.

I like the circus show and love to see the jugglers
It never occurred to me that a project manager could be a ... :-)

Let's imagine what would be the Super Bowl deadline not met?

But why just focus on deadlines? Yes, there are projects where time is the primary constraint, but there are others where scope, quality or even cost are the primary constraint. A good PM will always find out from their customer, sponsor and other key stakeholders the relative order of the constraints and adapt their approach to meet those...

Given that most of my clients have been government departments, I've often had legislated deadlines. Under Agile, I don't have to focus on the deadline, only the prioritizing the work.
