How can we structure something where we can:
1) Reduce inventory to meet company's Code Red needs
2) Provide businesses a way to sustain the reduced inventory levels

any feedback or idea?

Hi Manjur,

Good Question for these tight times! Expense Reduction and Purposeful Growth seems to be the next Business 2.0 wave. I'm assuming you are referring to IT equipment as servers, pcs and printers. We recently went through a similar reduction, the first step was to get the executive agreements on increasing risk and turn around time by not having items on hand. Some items we explored were as follows:

1. We had a purposeful use campaign for network printers and pcs, this included analysts and directors doing tours of the department to make sure there we had not left equipment in production not being used. If equipment was identified and agreed to as spare, we moved the equipment to our inventory for redeployment.
2. We reviewed our development and test environments then consolidated them leveraging equipment based upon need.
3. We trended our needs for break/fix/replacement activity and lowered stock to meet only "emergency needs".
4. We stopped carrying stock for desktop equipment. There was also an educational campaign to all around cost savings for using a network printer in your area versus an inkjet.

Looking forward to also hearing ideas for frugality from others!

Hope this helps,
Elyse
