I've just recently finished a placement year as a Project Manager, running IT project throughout the EMEA region. All projects i was involved in, incorporated the use of IT outsourcing.
I'm now back at university and I'm undertaking a thesis focusing on Project Management and whether IT outsourcing hinders or affects the overall completion of the project.
I now have to come up with titles for a thesis (this is the bit I'm struggling with).
I have to present 10 problems or questions that can be answered or solved. One of the 10 will form the title for my thesis.
I would like to request help from fellow project managers, who have interest in this field, to help provide suggestions on thesis titles please?
Any help will be greatly appreciated,
Many thanks in advance,
Thomas. Saving Changes...

How about these:
Does an outsourced IT dept add to the cost of a project?
Does an outsourced IT dept hinder project communications?
Does an outsourced IT dept give the project manager more or less control?

Does the conflicting priorities of the out sourcer and customer increase project time and cost or reduce quality?
For Time & Material projects it is in the out sourcer's profit interest to extend the project time and therefore cost, usually driven by project variations.
For fixed cost projects there is the tension between the out sourcer wanting to deliver as little as possible to meet the requirements to maximise the profit whilst the business wants a quality product for the price. Saving Changes...
Hi Thomas,
I would really like to see your results when you have finished.
And if you need more input I am happy to help.
Thanks Julie Saving Changes...
I beleive IT outsourcing will always affect a project. Whether positively or negatively depends on:
How diligently Vendor due diligence is done
How minutely the requirements and deliverables have been defined in the contract
Whether the vendor is flexible and ready to accept changes in deliverables with acceptable turnaround
All vendors are working on same standards (like application versions among others) or compatible environments
How skill fully did the Project Manager Implement deliverables and changes to them.

Here are some additional ideas for potential thesis topics:
a1) How does a formal "requirements management" methodology (a la the IIBA's BABOK) contribute to ensuring that projects (whether outsourced or "insourced") actually meet stakeholders' needs?
a2)How does this approach (using a recognized requirements management methodolgy) ensure consistency between insourced and outsourced project teams?
b) How does outsourcing impact the short-term and long-term level of project-commitment (and staff turnover) for existing, permanent internal staff?
c) Which types of project-skill-set activities lend themselves to outsourcing, and when is "re-training" of internal staff, to accommodate those missing skillsets, a more appropriate approach than outsourcing? Saving Changes...
