Due to cost reasons, my company has decided to go with a new BI platform. How do you go about demonstrating the feasibility of a product that your development shop has no clue about?

First step is to determine what is required. When is the BI platform feasible? In other words what functional and technical requirements are minimal required? These need to be translated into the set of pass criteria.

Next step is to determine a piece of functionality in the current environment which represents the use of BI platform and can be realised in and isolated way

Next ask the vendor to provide resources to help you to set up the BI environment and create the functionality.

Finally test the solution and evaluate the pass criteria together with the decision makers

hopes this helps

Hi,

I agree with Hans for the evaluation. I'd also like to add in a couple of points.

Have some of your team members attend some training sessions on the new technology, and include them in the evaluation of a good place to use the new platform after the training. Include them with the vendor for the setup of the new environment.

Hope this helps,
Elyse
