Considering this digital evolution that we are living now, in your opinion, how should be the next generation project managers?

Where AI and machine learning as part of this game, PM should be tech to grow in this next generation?

What kind of skill set they should have?

I was a surviver of the former "digital evolution age". Because there was not PCs when I started working I lived the age where a specific business unit called "planning" existed and when you entered there you could see a whole longer wall with gantt charts from top to bottom. At this time I was younger. Nothing new under the sun. All are tools, no more than that. In fact, in my actual work place, I am leading that movement because they thing we will be "stronger and fatest" thanks to that. By the way, perhaps you are not aware of that, but from long time ago you are surranded of AI and machine learning devices inside the tools you use in your work and your home for example.

Dear Ivan
Interesting your question
Thanks for sharing

There are activities, currently carried out by project managers that will be carried out by AI

Others will continue to be carried out by the Project Managers

I think it is important to be up to date in all areas

I echo Sergio's stance that we as project managers are living in digital / AI times for some time now.

I started programming with punch cards, moved to screens, PCs, the internet and smartphones - and I preserved my curiosity and willingness to be an early adopter over 40+ years.

All this hype about big data and data driven decision making I heard first about in the 1980s, labeled MIS and SAP/ERP.

So, it brought us somewhere and continues to do so, albeit at an increased speed, due to the fact that we are more connected globally (on the internet 2010: 2 billion, 2020: 4 billion, 2030: all 8 billion) which does two things, unstoppable in my view: dramatically increases human innovation, democratizes humanity.

As I said, as project managers we are inclined to be at the forefront of any developments, we are helping to implement new ideas, and we should - much more than now - make sure our human ethics are preserved. Be confident and proud to be part of this community of only 66 million, leading all of humanity.

The only risk I see is what some call singularity and the eventual birth of a super-intelligent AI which might be ignorant of (human) life and therefor end it (read Nick Bostrom). Expected this century. Bad for us but maybe good for evolution.

Dear Thomas, I'm pleased to read your contribute here after meeting you in Budapest past november!

In fact, PM's is following and leading this wave.

You've made a very interesting comment in your paragraph:

"The only risk I see is what some call singularity and the eventual birth of a super-intelligent AI which might be ignorant of (human) life and therefor end it (read Nick Bostrom). Expected this century. Bad for us but maybe good for evolution."

My point is right there! Considering that we (humans), stay ethicals, I guess that we'll have a huge amount of work and knowledge that machines will do further for us in the future.

Generally, as a project manager, one should be apt to learning and adapting quickly to new digital, technical, methods, processes, etc. Today it's one type, tomorrow another. We should be like a bouey on the ocean current.
