I know a person who finished his universitary studies in Mexico. He has his studies certification (an official document) but he does not have a Diploma. In Mexico (as in many places), some universities require students to finish a Thesis in order to have their Diploma, even if they successfully finished the study plan. He finished the studies but didn't have a Thesis, so he has the certificate but not the Diploma.

The requirements for a PMP certification asks for "A bachelor's degree or a 4-year equivalent course". My question is if the studies certification is enough to meet this requirement and this person should only report 4,500 hours of experience, or if the Diploma is mandatory.

Thanks in advance.

To be safe I would suggest he contact PMI's customer care team to get this clarified.

Can he get something from the university indicating his non-thesis studies are considered equivalent to a normal 4 year undergraduate bachelor's program?

PMI customer service should let you know if that certificate is valid, and they can also let you know if there's any other documentation that can help your friend become a PMP. Good luck on your friend's journey to becoming another great addition to our community.
