The only benefits that matter are those that will make the stakeholders that are hearing feel they are more rich with those items than without those items, where rich does not mean more money only. I would suggest using very specific examples directly related to your own business.
If I learned one thing from all the paper writing I’ve done, it’s far easier to succinctly and clearly describe a specific example than the general case in the abstract when you have to define terms, compare, and contrast. Even if trying to describe the general case, examples help greatly so skip the general case and focus on the examples the stakeholders understand.
You can start with a very brief description of what is a project, portfolio, and program in terms of your own products. Then I would list individual characteristics and their benefits to you. These are quick statements: A characteristic of portfolio management is that you are trying to cover a defined market space. A benefit is that you ensure you cover everything while limiting duplicate effort across project teams. It’s like a job interview: Here is a skill I have.
