True learning comes from a consistent and planned effort by the Project Manager

Staying at the top of your field - better yet, one step ahead - should be a passion and not a responsibility

Do you agree with these statements?

How many hours per day, per week, per month do you devote to the study of topics related to Project Management?

CL (Continuous Learning) is critical in almost any field these days if we want to remain competitive.

A commitment to it therefore should be view as "table stakes" and not as doing something "special".

I'd have a hard time quantifying the time I spend learning as I learn a lot from the learners in the classes I teach, the questions I answer in this community and other "micro bursts". I also spend time each day on HBR.org, LinkedIn & TED Talks.

Then I'd add reading books to the list...

If I had to guess-timate, it would be 1-2 hours at minimum per day...

Agreed Luis, as with anything else, if you can't stay current and fresh you lose a step. We should strive to have a passion for our chosen field. It's like professional athletes, or a military member, they are always training or trying to enhance their skills, it's not that they don't know how to do their job, but we should always train and learn more.

Personally I try to read/listen to an audio book on the way to work, commute time is about 45 minutes one way, and on the way home, so roughly an hour and a half a day.

When you go in the car can you concentrate fully on what you are listening to?

Hi Luis: It's something like exercise, food and sleep - we have to fit it in every day to be healthy. Between my regular job and learning it every day - I also try to spend time daily on this site, audio tapes and other learning opportunities daily. At least an hour a day, sometimes more.

Thank you, Luis, for your question to the community.

Different types of learning. Learning through actions, such as reading, and learning through interaction, such as community involvement and work. Though can easily be overlooked, daily interactions with associates and stakeholders hold huge learning opportunities.

I currently have a handful of books in process or in-line.

In response to your questions;
I agree that continuous learning should be from both passion and responsibility. Regardless, there is a responsibility to our profession (whatever that may be). Passion, however, will make you like a sponge.

I don't count hours. Any CI is daily, some days more than others.
