Have you set strategic professional goals and are using this platform (i.e., PMI’s ProjectManagement.com) to synergize the results? For instance:

- Becoming an author (e.g., articles, blogs, webinars, etc.)
- Giving back to the profession through social engagement (e.g., answering or posting questions, creating thought-provoking dialogue, etc.)
- Advancing your personal knowledge
- Becoming a Headliner on the site (e.g., highest influence, largest network, etc.)

Tell us your story, or your aspirations.

I have to say my motivation is to advance personal knowledge although I admit a level of enjoyment in debating with others. I typically include a little research in preparing may answers (study and learning) so it encourages me to be active in the industry.
I am essentially retired (a couple of outstanding contractual commitments) so this is forum provides an opportunity to keep my brain from atrophying.

George -

I'd say my involvement with this community is well aligned with my continued focus on helping those in the profession. I don't really envision engagement over and above that which I currently do - answering (and very occasionally starting) discussion threads, reading other's contributions, blogging and delivering the (very) occasional webinar.

As I don't work with a team on a day-to-day basis, I find that this community also helps to scratch my Maslow's third level itch of social belonging, virtual though that might be.

Sometimes I would love to share my own views with some experts/professionals in this platform. There is some relevant topic intrigues me but not sure exactly how much that is aligned with my strategic goal.
But it (ProjectManagement.com) helps to earn free PDUs.

I do enjoy
- having to check questions and answers
- providing my perspectives that often contradict others
- help others

George,

Good question, I have no idea if I will continue to be a PMI member after March, the changes did not please me, and PMI is slow to clarify the impacts of DA on PMI-ACP, poor communication, paying to wait is not a solution. So the true benefit is the knowledge obtained and the exchange of opinions.
So I will reflect where my presence really is most needed. Where value can be gived and obtained.

Alexandre,

I will state emphatically that your voice is needed!

Your responses have interested me, and I have enjoyed reading materials that you have referenced. You appear to have a strong lean towards the “scientific basis of thought,” which I appreciate and enjoy. So, please keep it up for myself and the community.

I don’t know anyone who agrees with PMI on everything, and I understand why you are frustrated waiting for clarity on the questions regarding PMI-ACP/DA. However, it’s in PMI’s best interest to get this right for their vested ACP credential holders, so their outcome, in my opinion, must be a value-add across the board.

Hello George. What a great question! My response is I want to grow and this site helps me do that. I learn from all the discussions, the blogs and the articles. It is so fun to read different perspectives and I continue to look for opportunities to support and help my peers. It has been a big learning curve for me to share presentations, write articles and volunteer on this site. Sometimes I get stretched out of my comfort zone, but it has been really good and the responses I receive from around the globe after sharing information.... and the friends/connections I've made on this site make it all worth it.

I am interested in differences in the way we think about international things. Things like how people perceive things due to cultural backgrounds are very interesting.
In that sense, participating in the community is very meaningful to me.
