Do you usually manage projects using your smartphone?

What tools do you normally use?

Hi Luis,

An interesting questions, I'm looking forward to seeing some of the responses.

I manage my primary project in Jira, and I have members of my project team in time zones that are opposite my home time zone, and several that have been working on the weekends to help catch up from a rather large change in scope. So, I monitor the project in Jira on my phone with their app, review documents in Confluence with that app, chat via Slack or Zoom, and keep up on email in Outlook. I also use Google Drive, OneDrive, and Dropbox to send files or collaborate on issues with various stakeholders. Since there are a number of contractors on the project I need to tailor my communication methods to fit their needs, so the technology used may vary, but Jira and Confluence are the single source of truth so final documents must be shared there.

All of this is done on either my laptop when I'm in the office, my iPhone when I am away from my desk or traveling, and either my iPhone or my iPad when I am at home. The hardest part is deferring non-urgent issues until my normal work hours. I try to maintain a healthy work-life balance, and that means filtering out the non-urgent stuff so I only respond to issues that cannot wait.

Very interesting what you wrote: "The hardest part is deferring non-urgent issues until my normal work hours. I try to maintain a healthy work-life balance, and that means filtering out the non-urgent stuff so I only respond to issues that cannot wait."

I am also very curious to see the comments on this reflection :-)

Basically just a way to keep in touch with email while not at my computer. I have access to files on OneDrive, and if need to view I can, but not much more than that.

How about you, Luis. What tools do you use on your smartphone to manage projects?

Email, MS Teams and WhatsApp are the three main tools I've used to collaborate with members of the teams I've been on.

While it is technically possible I have not used such tools for content creation or update.

Hi Luis: I only use my smartphone for email when I am away from my computer. I prefer to do my work at my office computer with dual monitors where I feel the most efficient.

Thanks Luis -

I missed one - OneNote. Less to take notes but more to consult info which I am likely to otherwise forget- that tends to happen more the older I get :-)

That's true, why not take advantage of existing technology we paid for.
