at Monitoring and Control Process group in PMP, why PMBOK using a word control with some process and using a word Monitoring with another process like control scope and monitoring stakeholders?.

there are 3 processes which monitor: communications, risk and stakeholder engagement. The rest controls, e.g. resources, quality.

'to monitor' means to watch it, facilitate, measure it and 'to control' includes to take action, correct something. The PMBoK X1.11 explains that the team had input that 'project managers tend to monitor, facilitate and manage rather than control, particularly in processes that involve interactions with people'. That is why they changed the three from control to monitor.

There are further explanations in this appendix about the name changes. Look it up, Mazin.

They should probably drop the word "control" in all honesty.

Thomas feedback is spot on, I totally agree and Kiron summed it up in a short and sweet, yet, very true sentence.

I think both needs to be there as they serve somehow different purposes and processes.

The key is to understand the definition of words "control" and "monitoring" in the context of PMI. Monitoring means collecting,
measuring, and assessing measurements and trends to effect process improvements. Control means determining corrective or preventive actions or replanning and following up on action plans
to determine whether the actions taken resolved the performance issue.

You monitor artifacts and processes to see if they are within the norms. (For example, actual expenses for each line item are within + or - 5% of the budgeted amount.) Control is bringing things back on track when they are outside of the norms. Control includes variance analysis and correction planning/execution.

Mazin,

Stakeholders are not necessarily part of the project team, so you can just monitor.

For communication, you control what you release, and you can monitor the impacts.

For risk it is similar, you choose the risk you try to control and you monitor the impact of those actions.

At the end, monitoring and controlling integrate like all other processes, because you monitor in order to maintain control.
