What Are The Main Differences Between The New PMP and PMI-ACP

Agile Education Organizational Project Management

The PMP exam will be changing from July 1, 2020 to reflect the new Exam Outline which has a huge modification from the previous outlines.

The New outline now focuses on 3 Domains; People | Process | Business Environment |

This new exam will test heavily on Agile and Hybrid approaches in project management.

".....The research conducted through the Job Task Analysis validated that today’s project management practitioners work in a variety of project environments and utilize different project approaches.Accordingly, the PMP certification will be reflective of this and will incorporate approaches across the value delivery spectrum. About half of the examination will represent predictive project management approaches and the other half will represent agile or hybrid approaches. Predictive, agile, and hybrid approaches will be found throughout the three domain areas listed above and are not isolated to any particular domain or task...." #PMP Exam Content Outline

You can find the answer to your question inside the content outline itself and the list of recommended reading. On the other side, if you see the first chapters of the PMBOK you will find what the approches and life cycles mean in the context of PMP examination.

@Andrew - I'm definitely aware of how DA is positioning the PMI-ACP relative to the CDAP & DALSM certifications. When I spoke with Dave Garrett and Mark Lines who are closest to the decision making, both said that they felt there was sufficient "distance" between the ACP, CDAP and DALSM to not make any hasty decisions about dropping one or more of those.
