I represent a Project Portfolio Mgmt tool called PPM Studio (www.ppmstudio.com)
As a product guy we always say and firmly believe that project management tools are like change agents...They change the way your projects are managed from a clumsy and tidy unstructured way of analysis/reporting to a more structured, on a click analysis, reports with real time updates
And we know that these tools are very well capable of managing small projects to complex and large projects, portfolios at organization level to business units. They are in compliance with quality standards like ISO, CMMI. They are in line with best practices like PMBOK, Prince2, and Agile. They make the decision making simple, accurate, more reliable and what not…
Right from the software trainee who can fill his Time sheet TO project manager who can check his resource allocation, plan his project… TO middle managers who can have the project updates, reports TO top management who can analyze the whole portfolio TO stake holders who can get live updates of the project….everyone is benefited
This being one side of the coin….
There are a people who say that these tools are just fancy, people don’t have the time to understand the benefits of the tool, people don’t have time to implement, lot of training required, they are expensive and the list goes on…
Keeping both the perspectives in mind…what is your say on bringing in a PM/PPM or for that case any automation tool into your process and what good or worse experiences you had with your tools?
