Does anyone have a good BI\report creation requirements gathering document that I can take a look at? I am in a project that I inherited that had no requirements from the beginning and it is a mess with project scope creep, etc...

Rajesh - In my experience, I have approached BIDW project requirements gathering by starting with these 5 steps:

1. Ask the business users what are the decisions they need to make
2. What information do they need to make the best decisions
3. Put those questions into brief user stories
4. Take part of the user story and put it into a fact-qualifier matrix
5. Depending on the scope of the project and the methodology of the develop org, I may or may not generate a BRD from there

That means 3 artifacts: user stories, FQM, BRD

I have more info on FQMs at my blog: http://www.beyeblogs.com/bippm

I was unable to access your attached checklist for requirements gathering. Is it possible to send it to my email.

Thanks Kim

Thank you Bethany and Mark. I am going to be conducting a requirements gathering workshop and I need to create an "official" requirements document. Do you have any samples of a fully signed off requirements doc? You can delete confidential information as you like. I am looking for more of a flow and how the document needs to be laid out... Thanks again.

You can use this URL to access a sample fact-qualifier matrix to use to collect requirements for designing a BIDW solution: http://www.techprodo.com/bi-project-reqs_sample.xlsx

It is a very Agile / user-story based approach to collect reqs for a data model, as opposed to a formal biz reqs document.
