Does anyone have a good BI\report creation requirements gathering document that I can take a look at? I am in a project that I inherited that had no requirements from the beginning and it is a mess with project scope creep, etc...

When in doubt - go back to the basics, don't make it more complex than it needs to be. At the end of the day, whatever document you use - for requirements, you are really documenting the WHAT & WHERE- what are you solving for, what is needed, etc... your design document answers HOW and WHERE, project charter or project request answers WHY, project schedule says WHEN and WHO, etc...

Hi All,
I have been reading this post for sometime and it has provided me valuable information over a period of time. Now i am assigned a task of preparing a BRD for Reports. Can any one please guide me how to write requirement for the report considering the report would contain only columns straight from the data base and some aggregate functionality.

Hey Raj,

I know you, we need to identify key stakeholders and gather Business requirements. Next step is to build user story against it which involves brief summary of the requirements, business value, interaction with external entities, scenarios tied to it and the output comes out of the system. I have one template which I can send it to you.
