Hello all,
I am happy to let all of you know that I passed PMP exam on first attempt last week.
Thanks to everyone for help and support.
With my 12-13 weeks real study (Wuf! I did not study so much during engineering ) almost 2-3 hours every day on the weekdays and 4-5 hours on the weekends and referred PMBOK. Andy Crowe & Rita's book.
My exam was really hard. I had only 3 formula related questions. (15-20)% were either one and half liner, (40-50)% between 2 and 3 lines and the rests were long. Although, I was scoring high on the PM Prepcast simulator, at some point of time in the real exam, I thought of giving up. I am not trying to scare anyone but a good preparation and a “ Can Do “ attitude will help.
My preparation strategy was as below :
1. Read each book couple of times. Truly understand the concept and the linkage of processes in each process groups and create a map either visually or in your mind. 2. Simulator is a wonder tool. MUST work on it either in full or in batches of 20-30 at a time. Review all wrong answers and understand the logic why wrong with the explanation. 3. However, it appeared to me that simulator is not enough. Practiced questions from other sources which also helped. 4. Created an Excel sheet showing source of questions, reviewing wrong in first attempt, why, reviewing wrong answers in 2nd attempt, why, etc. until absolutely convinced. 5. If the idea is not clear, refer to YouTube. Good explanation from several posts. 6. In the end, what is important is “ Can Do “ attitude. Remember, perseverance pays in the long run.
Now I am relaxed for the time being before taking the next challenge. If anyone needs any help/tips, please feel free to reach out to me.
Just to share my experience, as I pass online yesterday.
The current situation help me to study 4-5 hours a day for almost 3 months.
My tools :
- Rita Book v9, read it twice
- PMBook v6 just to report on it when need clarification and root information
- Dan Ryan lessons : good to start and have a global understanding, but not enough to go deep.
- PrepCast simulator : very good tool, 1600 questions, very usefull to undertand why the answer is correct (what are the tips and keyword) but also why others answers are not correct (not the case of many simulator).
Although I had a scoring between 80-90% on PrepCast simulator and practice the 1600 questions, I found the exam a little more difficult, as the proposed answers were very close to each other (in the simulator, I found easy to identify the good/wrong answer, not in the exam).
Hope to help.

Congratulations!
I am also doing PMP exam prep and would like to know about built-in 10-minute break and two parts of online proctored testing for the exam. How many questions in each parts. Appreciate sharing of your experience. Thank you.

Thank you !
Once you start, the break is after 90 questions, whatever the time you spend to answer.
So, don't wait to work until the break as long as you didn't reach 90 questions.
So, obvioulsy, be careful to manage your time correctly for this first part; if you are too long, this is less time for the 2nd part.
Once you reach 90 questions, you are allowed to 10 min break. This is up to you to take it full or not, but don't be late.
Then, you continue for the rest of the exam and remaining time.
In total, this is 240 min for exam + 10 min break max + allowed time at the begining to be familiar with the software.
