I was attending an online training on Pluralsight, 37hours, with transcript and downloadable videos. I don't plan to attend an in-person class, Pluralsight was a perfect choice for me. My application was just approved by PMI, so they accept it as an education source. Saving Changes...
Some people prefer to save cost; it is in many cases the deciding factor. I have done both, and there is no difference in learning levels. In fact, I learn better online, in my own time, with far less noise and distraction. Saving Changes...
As someone who has delivered multiple PMP prep courses over the past few years, I'd suggest that if the instructor is being responsive to questions for the online course and if the underlying study content and practice exam questions are good, then there should be no real difference.
A prep course is different than a non-certification PM course in that you really only have one objective for the former and there are not likely to be tactile/hands-on/experiential style exercises where in-person presence would be superior.

I believe that online training, even with super responsive master trainer/speaker, is still loosing to responsive in-person trainer/speaker. Showing that you care rarely can be shown effectively on a flat screen, you need 3D hands-on experience for that.
Conversely, if the PMP is delivered one page at a time from PMBOK, then it does not matter if you are in online or in-person training. Saving Changes...

I believe it has to do with how YOU learn best. I took a (6) month in-person class that was divided into (4) semesters. The interaction with the teach and other students went along way to my understanding of the PMBOK and PM in general. I learn better in that type of environment vs on-line. I passed the PMP on the first attempt... How best do you learn? Then figure the cost. Good Luck Saving Changes...
