COVID-19 - Will PMI give us remote access to pass the PMP exam?

Hello,

With World Health Organization (WHO) on March 11 who declared COVID-19 a pandemicm, and PMI sending notification saying "they are moving to a temporary remote work policy for 30 days (end 12 April). This means that a majority of their staff around the globe will be working from home.", I was thinking about people applying for exams that are scheduled for the next few weeks?
Shouldn't we be allowed to remote sessions to do the tests instead of going to a crowded class/test room ?

Personally, I dont want to postpone my exam, and I guess many other candidates agree with me, so I hope there is a way to do the exam remotely as well... Would PMI create this flexibility ?

Any thought about that ?

Thanks,
Soha

In light of all the exam re-scheduling, I would not be surprised to see PMI delay the introduction of the new PMP exam.
Also hopeful the July exam date is postponed as fallout is still to be determined from all the reschedules that need to be coordinated.

Wow, I never thought this extraordinary event could change my plans to take the PMP exam before 1st of July. Thanks for bringing this topic and information. So, let’s wait for what PMI has to say about it in the next days.

Soha -

At present the PMP exam is not available for remote, online completion unlike the CAPM (and more recently, PMI-ACP). If that changes it may have more to do with Pearson VUE electing to close their test centers rather than PMI.

As I understand Pearson VUE has asked candidates to reschedule their exams in certain global areas which have been heavily affected by the disease.

PMI does have a team monitoring the situation closely and there have been similar questions posed by multiple REP representatives to PMI on LinkedIn so I'm sure this is something they are considering.

Kiron
its important for Pearson Vue to be mindful of causing avoidable panic by cancelling and rescheduling the PMI Exams even for areas which are not high risk. I suggest they step up safety measures in these difficult times. A blanket policy to cancel exams is not helpful. PMI need to move quickly to stem potential fall out.

I have been preparing to take the exam end of May and now in my country they have ran out seats for the month of May as well cancelled all exams in March. They aren't sure whether they will add more seats for the upcoming months also the situation here is unpredictable as the government can lockdown the country for a longer duration.

Amidst all this uncertainty, PMI should seriously consider postponing the new exam at least for a couple of months or ensure that further seats/exam dates are available to the currently registered applicants.

Hello,
I agree with Kiron.

PMI-ACP & CAPM might been taking via online proctored but have a risks.
I tried for twice and had a problem.( third time I will change it to based center).

However PMP should be only via PearsonVue centers.
(pearsonVue said they will suspend it to 16 April)

Jeane's comment is spot on. This whole situation is really just exposing PMI's lack of commitment to its own stated practices.

Where are the Planned Risk Responses that PMI preaches? I realize a global pandemic may not be most likely identified risk, but a situation where a meaningful number of candidates need remote access to the PMP should not be that far-fetched. For the past 10 weeks, I have been studying how important it is for me to do these things...why isn't PMI?

The fact that PMI has not issued a solid update to calm their stakeholders (i.e. us) probably tells us everything we need to know about how valuable this certification will be in 10 years.

I had a scheduled exam for March 23, 2020. PearsonVue has canceled exams for the month of March. 1st available exam date is April 29, with no guarantee this date wont be canceled. April 29 is my last day to pass. I get one chance, if not canceled. Additionally, I am being asked to pay a reschedule fee. I have been on hold with PMI for 20 minutes. I cannot get answers. If online proctoring is not available, will extensions be given?

This is from the Covid -19 Update on the PMI home page.

For candidates who already scheduled the exam but are unable to take it due to health restrictions or delayed with training, PMI will offer you to reschedule your exam and we are willing to extend your exam eligibility period for up to six months. All paid fees will be eligible for a refund and you will be able to reschedule without accruing penalty fees.

Hi Brian,
It also happened to me. And the strange thing is when I try to reschedule, the date and time I booked still show as available. I plan to call the centre tmr to seek further clarification.

Just got off the phone with PearsonVue:

- Their verification system is currently down, which is preventing their phone representatives from making exam changes.

- If you pay the $70 fee to re-schedule now, there is no guarantee that this will be reimbursed.

- The only way to re-schedule the exam without the fee is to wait for their official cancellation email. These are being sent out manually, beginning with the exams scheduled earliest.
