Project management means planning, organizing, monitoring the project work, and ensuring customer satisfaction with the product. For all these tasks a workforce that can be reached at any moment is required. The current pandemic situation has made most of the workforce to work remotely.
Earlier when the work was onsite project management was done at ease. We were already practicing remote workforce capabilities for at least a portion of our workforce. But now everything is done on remote meetings.
With the maximum workforce working remotely, we must strive hard to make it productive. We have an arsenal of tools to make the remote working productive, with a simple thought process of selecting the tools according to the problems faced by the remote workers make the working more efficient. In my view software projects would reach level of 100% on line in near future -in fact quite lot has already being done on line, but for infrastructural and engineering projects even that to reach to a level of 50% would still take long time (few years) as the all the situations cant be captured and deliberated for the complex issues which need to have actual ground touch. In such projects most of the work ,specially execution remains beyond the office domain.
Confederation of India conducts National energy awards a three day program wher about 300 participant comapanies participate at some convetion hall in Chennai or Hydrabad or Delhi . This the entire program will be conducted on line. The participants will present their excellent work done in Energy efficiency areas and about 35 judges would interact online through video conference session of question answers after they present their work. The judges would be located at different cities in their own houses interacting with different companies and amongst themselves. This event is planned in August 2020. We all know that PMI conferences are held online for many years and across the world PMs attend through audios.
As AI would grow gradually the rise of online would start in the area of Infra projects and engineering projects, that is what can be expected at this point in time.
But Still for such projects Engineers and Project managers association from site will not get totally severed at any time--in my view.
