Working online and holding virtual meetings is familiar to many projects. The next challenge is moving to 100% online for a period - this includes workshops and team meetings which are normally in person. The challenge is to hone our skills in presenting and being present - both are essential. In other words to be engaging when talking, and to remain engaged when not. Yes, we can transition many face-to-face meetings to virtual meetings. WebEx meetings are already a norm in my domain with aerospace suppliers spread out globally from USA, UK, France to Japan mostly scheduled at odd hours (early mornings or late evenings) as all are on different time zones than me based in Dubai. Nevertheless, in-person review meetings at supplier facilities are still required for my deliverables such as Critical Design Review (CDR), First Article Inspection (FAI), Final Software Acceptance Test (FSAT), etc.

I've watched here, in our community, an event with video (a jazz orchestra)

All project work done online is definitely possible in my opinion in the not too far future with the advent of AI, Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Big Data Analytics that have become the buzz-words in all industries these days. When machines become intelligent and with low latency high speed satellite network connectivity that is taking shape now i.e. 5G/OneWeb/Starlink, it will be possible or inevitable I should say..

We are looking at introducing online presentations in our Toastmasters meetings for two reasons. First, we may have to hold totally virtual meetings in the very near future. Second, it's a great way for people to develop their remote leadership skills.

I once had the opportunity to participate in a Toastmaster club with only virtual sessions (online)
Unfortunately, after some time, we had to suspend the activity for two reasons:
- Few people in the sessions and, consequently, concentration of several roles in the same person
- Few speakers in the different sessions
It was a very rewarding experience.
Was it premature?
On the other hand, what leadership skills do we focus on to be able to lead strictly online?
