Hey all,

Wondering if there are any PMs on here from the Insurance Industry that have been through the FLMI courses via LOMA.

Thanks in advance,
Bethany

Hi Bethany,
I am a PM in the insurance industry and have completed LOMA's FLMI, FFSI, ACS, ARA and AAPA certifications over the past several years. Do you have specific questions regarding the FLMI (or other LOMA) certification?

Thanks,
Ted

Bethany,

I completed my LOMA FLMI, ACS, ARA studies and exams back in 2003 and 2004 when I switched careers from Kodak to life reinsurance. It really helped provide exposure to so many aspects of the life insurance business at a pace I could tackle and very cost effective as well.

I occassionally spin through my study notes or a few books I decided to keep when I start a new project in another area or want a refresher on a specific term. What helped this process was to write study notes and then type them as part of the review and study process - side benefit is I can use search online to find topics of interest quicker.

Hope this helps?

Thanks Ted and Edward!

Wow! You went beyond what I was expecting as far as certifications.

I'm curious as to your opionions regarding someone that is a PM for an insurance software company? Specifically, the software is used across the board insurance wise (it covers life, health, disabilty, commercial, residential, etc) from getting qoutes all the way through the G\L.

When I reviewed the LOMA FLMI, it seemed to me to only really cover life insurance. Is this a true statement? What would you each recommend for learning about other parts of insurance?

thanks much in advance,
bethany

Bethany,
There is some information around healh and disability insurance in the LOMA courses. LIMRA has industry, market info etc and occassional whitepapers (if you or your company is a member).
Reinsurance Association of America offers sessions on the P & C reinsurance market that might have something as well.

That's about all i can think of.

Hi Bethany,
I am a PMP who worked in the insurance industry until recently. Over the years I completed LOMA's FLMI, the ICA and HIAA programs. I am also certified as a BA so am pretty well rounded. Let me know how I can be of assistance to you.

Hi Linda,

Out of curiousity - what made you leave the insurance industry? Also, did you work for an MGA, software company, supplier, re-insurer, broker????

What did you think of the ICA and HIAA programs? Why take them and how did it (if it did) help your career?

thanks in advance,

I left the insurance business because insurance companies in WA state were merged with International Companies and moved their offices either out of the Country or to other places in the Sout where salaries were less. I worked as a VP at three Companies before leaving to work in technology.
