I've been working four years in the cinema industry, as now streaming platforms came more relevant, cinema is facing a crisis of fewer attendees, also because of content with is less relevant every day.

Do you think project managers could innovate to contribute to the entertainment in the cinema?

while PMs can certainly contribute creative or innovative ideas, they are normally not expected to do so. Think about building a new skyscraper. Would you expect the PM to make it aesthetically appealing or make its design innovative or unique? An architect or designer would be your first choice.

Similarly, I'd expect a movie director, script writer or FX team to be more involved with innovation.

However, a PM could help to create an environment which encourages and cultivates creativity by creating psychological safety within the team.

When heaven and earth change places, what role can the project manager play?

Actively participate in the change project or ...

Move to a different industry

25 years ago, when I worked for a US company which have Disney as client (between others in the industry), this situation was predicted. Because of that initiatives for transforming movie theatres were started to give people the possibility to experience sensations (smell, listen, feel directly from their sense and according the scene in the movie) and being inside inmersive worlds. There was a hugh impulse on software/hardware industry behind that. But as far as I know that was stopped. They key point here is understanding what the people are "buying" then give people something "valuable" understanding that value is not monetary only. I remember at this time, because that company have one of the two highest fast foods companies in the world, maketing VP of the fast food company said: "each time we sold happy meals to fathers they are buying free time, not the happy meal".

Regardless to the position or role someone has in the organization, it is always recommended to "do" things outside the role functions. This provides a two-fold win: on one hand, increases exposure which could eventually play a big role in moving up the ladder; on the other, it fills up the personal development blank.

Thus,I recommend you to contribute by thinking of ideas to bring more people back to the movie theaters. Reach out to people in your organization, or outside, obtain their engagement, and start the journey. Even if it does not lead to a finalized product, or deliverable, it will have provided you with ideas and knowledge that they can nothing but help you in every facet of your life.
