PMP Application: Certification for 8 consecutive years of experience

The PMP exam application states:

"All project management experience must have been accrued within the last eight consecutive years prior to your application submission."

Is this year accrued monthly or starts on the beginning of the calendar year? So for example it is March 2010 now, does this mean experience is valid from March 2002 to today, or does it mean Jan 2002 - today?
