Jack, I would look into BIM. Learn about it and then look for a certification that helps you in your country/region.

Rami, now that the PMI-CP certification is out, which one do you recommend more since the CP is industry specific?

Jack,

I would suggest to check CIOB(UK), RICS(UK), RIBA(UK) membership options as to become a member you will have to pass assessment exam and prove your experience. In my region these organizations' memberships are highly appreciated in the industry.

If it was me, I would do: PMP, PMI-ACP then PMI-CP …. PMI-CP is a great credential for those who are in the construction industry.

Thanks for your quick reply. How well can we apply Agile ways of working in the construction sector? How well can we tailor agile methods to meet the specific demands of the construction industry, as the industry is mostly driven by predictive ways of working? Thank you so much.

Michael, I get this question a lot but the answer to it is lengthy and difficult to put in a comment. Briefly, I would note the following:

1) Agile is not a set of methods but a mindset and approach of which many frameworks and methodologies fall under.

2) The construction industry is not mostly driven by predictive WoW but more Hybrid WoW and this is something you will learn if you go through the PMI-CP courses which goes through agility in the construction industry.

The planning and design phases are mostly agile and while the construction execution itself follows a predictive approach, yet, that’s the bigger picture. There are so many activities during execution which follows an agile approach such as Procurement.

Hope this helps.
