I am looking to get started on studying for the PMP Exam as I will have my PM experience in by July. I had been looking for resources to study for the new exam but saw that the release of the new exam has been pushed back to January of 2021. Here are a few questions I have.

1. Do I study PMBOK 5th addition for current Exam? I was preparing to study 6th addition thinking I would be taking the new Exam.

2. How long does it take to get approved to take Exam once I submit my information.

3. Where should I start my studying for the Exam?

From my experience, the best advise I can give to you in terms of study plans and resources is the following: (Provided you are taking the current version of the exam)

Textbooks:
- PMBOK 6th Edition + Exam Content Outline
- Rita Mulcahy’s PMP Exam 9th

Courses and Simulation Exams:
- RMC Solutions (Simulation Exams)
- PM PrepCast (Simulation Exams)
- Udemy (Joseph Philips Course)

The new exam has nothing to do with the PMBOK edition, it has more to do with the nature and structure of the exam so you have to study from PMBOK 6th Edition.

Hope this helps - Good Luck !

Hi Troy,

in addition to what Rami stated, I would add

- plan for 160-200 hours of learning effort, if you can do 8 hours a week, that means 20 weeks at least
- concentrate on mock exams, do the same exams until you reach 8´0% correct answers without guessing, if you make the same mistake again, you know where to look

There are free resources and learning groups on the web, e.g.
