Folks -

While it was brewing unofficially for a few days, Sunil just formally announced the availability of the online PMP exam: https://www.pmi.org/certifications/types/p...xam-prep/online

Please read over the FAQs and I'd love to hear your thoughts on it...

Wow, this is amazing! It is unbelievable that the PMP exam is now available online. I wonder how long it would have been until this milestone without COVID-19.

I also notice there is a 10-minute break baked into the exam. I always felt it was a bit barbaric to force individuals to withstand 4-hrs with no break, or to keep the clock running during a break. Like above, I do wonder if this was a change that would have come about without C-19?
When I took my PMP exam in 2003, there were others in the exam room doing 7-hour exams. Seven hours!

Has anyone successfully scheduled an online exam? I've been trying since it was announced last week, but it keeps giving me a Vendor Error and says to contact customer service. I tried that and they just gave me the link to sign up again which obviously didn't work.

It is a great news for doing PMP exam online. What if there is a power failure or internet outage happened during exam if we do it from home. Can we able to attend the exam from office cabin where one side of the place is the glassdoor? Can anyone pls. clarify

I'd suggesting contacting either PMI or Pearson VUE customer support to get the question about the office cubicle answered, but here's the response from the FAQ on the PMI web page related to outages (https://www.pmi.org/certifications/types/p...m-prep/online):

"Is technical software assistance available during the exam? For example, what if there is a power outage during the exam?
If there is a technical software issue, the proctor will try to contact you through online chat or Voice over IP (VoIP) using the OnVue software. If the proctor cannot contact you via chat or VoIP, they will try to call you at the phone number you provided during the check-in process. While you are not allowed to have your phone in your immediate workspace during the exam, you are permitted to use your phone in case of a technical issue to access technical support.

The proctor will work with you to try to resolve the technical issues. Any lost time because of the technical issue cannot be added back into the exam and you will not be compensated for any lost time. If you would like to reschedule, the proctor will direct you to contact the Pearson VUE Call Center with an Incident Report number they provide you. You may not be compensated depending on what technical issue occurred. "

When PMI announced the online PMP exam on LinkedIn, it got mixed reactions. Some said it devalued the PMP cert, and others praised it as something long overdue. Considering that the exam is still proctored, I don't see this as something negative. I think in some ways it will be even more challenging, because a familiar environment may provide more distraction. I'm interested in hearing how it goes from someone taking it online.

I did my ACP online in February. It was interesting, to say the least!

First, ahead of time, you are asked to take pictures of the four walls where you will take the exam. Those are saved, along with a picture of your ID. In my case, it did not work properly so I wound up taking up all the slack I had before my exam to do it a second time.

At the exam, you will be asked to show your exam area again. My laptop wasn't working well for that purpose so I had to do it with my phone.

Your cam and mic are turned on for the duration of the exam. Nobody else can come into the room during the exam so choose judiciously! At one point, I was told to move my hand away from my face.

I used my SurfacePro and my snap-on keyboard decided not to work half-way through the exam. That wasn't a problem for the exam since I could use my external mouse to navigate and answer questions. It did mean I could not reasonably chat and ask for a bio-break.

I crossed my legs and got through the questions in two of the three hours you have. I submitted the exam immediately so I could go to the washroom! Thankfully, I was told I had passed the exam.

I am concerned about not being as efficient with online whiteboard for doing brain dump and drawing precedence network diagrams!

On paper, it works so fast!

That's my major concern with online PMP exam

I passed my PMP exam today :)

Took the exam online. Here's my review & experience:

1. The check-in process was smooth. You download the onVue software - Perform system test - Take pictures of yourself, ID and the room/desk where you plan to take the exam.

2. Next you confirm that you are ready to begin the exam and wait until the proctor initiates the exam (your laptop is locked at this point & all actions recorded).

3. There is a 10-minute in-built break after 90 questions. You can wish to skip it but I choose to take it. It's important to note that you can't review those questions afterwards...so make sure to review them before starting the break.

4. I didn't use the whiteboard, so can't say if it is good or bad. I personally am not a big fan of brain dump, so wasn't worried on this anyway.

5. The only problem I faced was with the calculator (I couldn't find it on the screen toolbar). I contacted the proctor via chat but she wasn't sure either. So I managed without it since I only had 5-6 questions involving calculations.

Overall, I think it is a workable channel to take PMP exam as long as you have a distraction free environment. Try not to move your hands often or touch your face or move away from the screen.

Thanks,
Mohit

Hi Mohit, Nice to hear you passed the exam via Online Mode. A quick question, did you attended from the walled room? Is there any glass door?
