It is perceived that managing software projects means managing knowledge work projects --It is also perceived projects that require upfront planning that managing industrial projects doesnot mean managing---How far this perception is true ---views are solicited

I don't understand the second part of your questions about industrial projects, but it is not only software projects that involve knowledge work. As someone involved in the past in healthcare and legal projects, there is definitely knowledge work involved in those.

Dear Elizabeth
Sorry for the error in the text.
The issue raised was:
"It is perceived by many that managing software projects mean managing knowledge work projects and need knowledge workers while industrial projects those require only upfront planning hence knowledge workers are not that needed ---How far this perception is true---views solicited "
Now you may provide your views.

I would think the person raising this point did not understand the term 'knowledge worker' in the same way I do. I believe it is someone who contributes their knowledge to the project. I can't think of any type of project where you would not need input from subject matter experts to a greater or lesser extent, although where it is relatively easy to estimate the work, it is easier to plan.
