Hi to everybody,

Are you aware of any available project management case studies, that are well described with the details and could be useful for the beginners project leaders and sponsor training?

I'm looking for the case that show both - successes and mistakes, especially in regards to basic PM things like stakeholders identification and management, schedule preparation and execution, resources planning and management etc.
Is there anything like that on PMI, Projectmanagement.com or other sources?

I'm looking for something simple, not a mega-project, to be used in organization that is not project-oriented. I need something outside of this organization - that's why I'm asking here.

Thanks!

Standards Plus also has case studies - it is still a work-in-progress, but I've contributed one and I know there are a bunch of others in the process of being worked on. What's good about that resource is that they are making direct links between the content of the case study and processes/references in the PMBOK Guide.

I teached project management from lot time. My courses are always 70% practice - 30% theory because I tried to use the same I learnt as Tennis Coach and try to put people on real life situations. So, the case study I used with more success was "The wedding" where people try to plan a wedding.

Thanks! One of the options is something everyone know from their daily life. I may use it as well.

Thanks! Is it a good book? How are the cases described? With what level of detail?
I thought they were very well written. There are many case studies on a variety of subjects, some where things went well, some badly so it's more for generating thought and discussion than detailed postmortems.

It worked well for a teaching setting where students read and write about 1 or 2 cases outside of class, and then a instructor guided discussion during class. Highly detailed case studies by contrast can be the subject of a full-blown research paper.
