Not sure what your question is? Are you asserting that in practice, teams struggle to implement agile techniques and end up sacrificing one project constraint (e.g. quality or efficiency) for another (e.g. delivery on time)?

If so, I'd say "yes" :-)

Dear Kiron
Yes ,That is one part.
Other part is while managing the constraint of time and cost due variation or adjustment in the scope do result in to sub optimal quality delivery vis a vis what is real need of the end customer and problems are faced.--How far it happens

Hi Mohan,

Some relevant questions: What quality assurance methods do you use? Does your Definition of Done include sufficient QA? Do you have appropriately detailed acceptance criteria for each backlog item? Do customers have sufficient opportunity to review product increments, approve and provide feedback? Are feedback items being getting prioritised and resolved rapidly enough?

Delivering the real needs of the customer sounds like an issue of prioritisation rather than quality. Presumably the customer gets to decide on the priorities and that ought to include any defect fixes. Avoiding the defects in the first place was the topic of my previous answer in this thread.

Dear David
Thanks for both the responses
Yes . My point is many times the organisations adopting agile are not that matured and do not get needed support from leadership to follow agile discipline that leads to situation where scope gets tailored for managing cost and the defect fixation is not that rigorously observed. I agree with you avoiding defects at first place.

In my opinion, this has a lot to do with the maturity of an organization in following the standard agile practices. I have worked with organizations who have accepted these practices as a way of life and produce an optimal delivery. I think management commitment plays a prime role in making sure that the stakeholders understand the importance of process.

Part of the challenge is also leaders or clients who insist on commitments to time & cost before the team has sufficient time to explore scope and understand the viability of solution options.

It's true that results can suffer if agile ways of working don't get adequate sponsorship and support within an organization. I work in technology and it seems that too often agile transformation is something driven by IT teams rather than being championed by the whole of business management and executive leadership.

I do not agree about quality will be "suboptimal" because time and cost constraints. Quality will be as defined taking into account time and cost. But what is usually forgotten is grade. In accordance to the strategy you have to define the balance between quality and grade.

I see where one young boy has just passed 500 hours sitting in a treetop. There is a good deal of discussion as to what to do with a civilization that produces prodigies like that. Wouldn't it be a good idea to take his ladder away from him and leave him up there?
