Does project management skills have a shelf life?

Life changes, project changes...sometimes in a project/program we know that we have all figure out and others that we feel that we don't know nothing at all.

I love to learn new things, develop new skills...however do you think that some project management skills have a shelf life? a sell-by-date? date of expiration?

Cool topic, Mayte.

Skills can certainly get stale, so as part of our professional responsibility, we should continue to strive for excellence, whether through active engagement, professional development, continuous improvement, etc.

I would say yes because while there are fundamentals you have to keep up with what is happening or your skills will be outdated in some areas. Managing projects today is a lot different than it was 20 years ago.

Never. Why? Because the defintion of project management. While projects exists project management skills will exists too.

I've never added the clarification to the discussion if I was referring to hard or soft skills, nor if I was referring to tools or techniques. So, each of you shared your own challenging and fair comment.

In my opinion to spilt into soft skills and hard skills has no sence. You need skills to perform project/program/portfolio management. Context is what will define your strengs and weakness and it is a sign of intelligence to detect it very early by yourselfe and working on mitigate the risk.
