Hi.

I am relatively to the world of Business Analysis/Project Management and all the zillion terms that I have come across.

My question is simple but it will probably lead to a long and lengthy discussion. The questions is "Given all the talk and discussion about Project Management, Scrum, Agile and what not, how would one define software engineering?"

I look forward to views from all members in order to get a better understanding.

The discipline to create software. :)

Although the terms are interdependent, PM is a general "control" framework (and I don't mean control in a strict directive sense).

Software engineering is like mechanical engineering, architecture.

Hi Bas. Thanks for the reply. In order to learn I have been searching the internet and looks as if few years back the buzz-word or hype was processes and software engineering but now it's agile, scrum, and PMO. Project management was always important but it was not talked about as much as it is now. Anyways, I guess I'm probably venting out my frustration after the information overdose.

So if a newbie like me wants to excel in the area of Project Management where should I start (besides gaining hands-on experience while working on projects)? Should I search and read articles on Project Management, Agile, Scrum or ??? Really confused and could use some guidance. Oh, BTW, recently got stumped by another term called "stories" while trying to digest an article but on the positive side I came across a great article of yours called "Software project managers should allow for experimentation" on TechTarget.

Thanks.
