Hi Kameswaran,

Blog are like a journal. You post some text and images and it is sorted on chronological order, so last entry first. The neat feature of blogs is that people can leave comments on your entry so creating feedback and a conversation.

A blog is great for providing information or a topic that requires some more text and that you want to have feedback on. A blog is mostly based upon one person that provides the main posts (or a small group).

Forums will allow you to have a pure discussion. Everyone can start a "thread" (=discussion topic) and everyone can provide their opinion about it. A blog is more a soapbox with conversation while a forum is a local market with everyone discussing to each other.

Wiki is pure online collaborative editing. Someone writes a piece and everyone can edit DIRECTLY into the orginal text. Great if you need consensus on some piece of material.

Twitter is more like background chatter. Quick and short messages. Like a watercooler: "Does anyone knows anything about XYZ?" and people will respond yes I do.

Hope this makes a little sense :)

Bas has explained the differences perfectly. This is a forum. The best thing to do is have a go at using some of them and see how you go!

Hi,

Adding to what Bas de Baar explanation would like give short reasons of their purpose blogs are like explanatory of individuals, forums are for groups Q&A kind, wikis are knowledge management tools and Twitter, as name suggest like chattering in one liners.

Blogs, Forums and Wikis can serve as a good knowledge management tools for an renationalisation if used effectively in intranets.

Obviously here the objective is to provide right information at right time.

Thanks,
Alok Tapdiya

I think Bas de Bar and Alok has explained the things clearly still Let me add few cents ......

Blog- Generally its a listing of person experience an any topic like I can tell about Food habits or Collaboration tools used etc.

Forum - The one we using is a meeting place to share views

Twitter - its a kind of SMS through internet just to keep everyone updated about any thing in world ranging from what ur eating to what Countries are progressing towards.

The differences between Discussion Boards, Blogs and Wikis are as follows:

Discussion forums are TOPIC centered. Forums are organized by topic and by threads. Anyone in the community can start a thread on a topic, someone needs to respond for a discussion to take place, and you can follow a thread on any given topic.

Blogs are AUTHOR centered. Readers can add comments to the author's post.

Wikis are Content/Document centered.

Lastly, I think your asking what is a "tweet"? A tweet is an expression of a moment or idea. It can contain text, photos, and videos and information is shared in real-time, everyday. information obtained from Twitter.
