I just failed my first try at the PMP exam. Needless to say im very disappointed. I am aiming to change that quickly. I took an exam prep course on Udemy which was highly rated and had the most downloads. I studied for about 5 months hardcore. Come the day of the exam the questions were highly situational and did not even remotely compare to the prep exam questions from the course. I feed like i was under prepared and I am know needing assistance from someone who has just past the exam an iron clad vendor(online) that will give me a better chance at studying for the situational questions that are asked on the exam! PLEASE HELP! THIS WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Dear RK,

Hope you are doing well and safe. I am undergoing my PMP preparation for a month now, and read PMBOK and Rita Mulcahy once. Also, attempted the questions based on the respective knowledge areas. Could you please guide me ideally when shall I schedule the actual PMP exam. Your guidance will be appreciated. Thank you.

This is totally dependent on you and your level of confidence. All I can say is keep practicing until you are comfortable with your level of confidence in answering questions.

Good Luck.

I would get Rita Mulcahy’s book, it helped me a lot and focused on the situational aspects of the test. (do all the exercises don't just read) Also find Ricardo Vargas' Video on youtube -- he ties everything together very well. If you've already studied this much, I bet that you will be able to pass the second time, now that you know how the test works. Don't give up.

Hi John,

I would say the best vendor is you!!!

I've heard people say consistency in preparation is required for the test. Read a good materials 3 times. Try Mock Exam as much as possible. These activities could not be over 3 months (some of them say "3 months is more than enough") I do agree with that. However, I didn't follow such recommendation straightforward.

A book named PMP Exam Prep from RMC is one of the most famous material (current edition is 9th). I would personally recommend this one.

If I may, I would share my experience.
I utilised 3 resources and 1 factor.

1 PMBOK for formal terms and PMI standard Tools and Techniques, terms and many stuff.
2 PMP Exam Prep (8th edition)
3 Experience (this is very important): you could have a sense of Process and Project Management Process
4 I spent, at least, 5 hours a day, every day reading the materials I mentioned above

However, just in case that you're lacking of experience, PMP Exam Prep might help you with that.

I assume that you could capture the contents on those material much more than me because English is your 1st language.

forget what you feel at the 1st try, keep you head up. make up your plan and follow it. you're going to accomplish at the second.
Cheer!!!

Hi John
I would recommend a good foundation in the following :
i) PMBOK
ii) PMP Exam Prep by Rita Mulcahy
iii) Head First PMP by Andrew Stellman

Try out as many mock papers as you can especially scenario-based questions. The PM Prepcast is also great

Few things I wanted to put forth before making any suggestion:
1. Mostly online exam prep I have came across are not good enough to give you a good feel and depth of actual exam. Mostly they try to cover the basics clear and help you in remembering some terms and process.
2. Most of the question in PMP exam are situational, as you have already tried ones so I hope now you have a clear understanding. This require you to be experienced enough on topics to judge which is best answer. So it would be good if you do a self assessment where you stand w.r.t. experience and knowledge.
3. Please use the result (assessment ) to check the knowledge gap and try to address them.

Now the possible reference or exam prep which I know are better than others are Rita Mulcahy and Simplilearn.

You can google them and check what is the feedback from others.

Hope this will help.

All the best.
Hi Tarun,
I am considering taking the Simplilearn PMP course. Do you have any feedback on this course and the vendor perhaps?
Thanks
