During the month of June, ProjectManagement.com will focus on Talent Management. When I think of Talent Management, I think of the investment that I'm putting in myself for my career. COVID19 has given many Project Managers the time to take a good look at where they want to go with their career and what they need to do to get there. Have you spent any time recently looking at the next steps for your career? How do you go about discussing these goals with your organisation/boss?

Talent management is such an important element of personal development that a lot of people take for granted so I'd love to hear how you cultivate your own talent to become the great Project Manager you are today.

Hi Emily,
I assume talent management is on the organization perspective, i.e. how to improve collaborators knowledge while personal development is, on the contrary, how a person shall improve the knowledge by itself.

E.g. ProjectManagement.com might be payed by the organization you work in or by yourself, as a way to personal improvement.
My plan for the future is keeping investing in my project management journey within PMI and other project management institutes, either sponsored by my organization or by myself.

best regards

Hi Tiago,

Thanks for taking the time to reply! I guess that it depends on your definition of talent management which is an interesting discussion in itself! To me talent management is everything and not just about an organisations perspective.

Have you got any specific plans for your project management development in the coming year? Has it changed as a result of COVID19?

Great thread!

We’ve all heard it said, that the best investment one can make is in themselves. I whole heartedly believe in thus and continue to strive to increase my weaknesses and hone my strengths.

That said, the investment we make in others comes back double what our investment in oneself provides. It is great to learn something, but in order to master anything you have to be able to pass this knowledge onto others. Take the time now to do so!

Items I am working on with my team:

Project management fundamentals, LEAN methodology and application, Leadership attributes, etc..

Thanks again Emily, great post to get others insight! I’ll be watching for responses!

I find the PMChallenge is a good informal way to hone existing skills, and during lockdown, I've smashed off a few books, and more than a few webinars.
