Curious to know what people struggle with most when managing software projects.
I try and get to the point early in the project where I can show the stakeholders the design (low fidelity) they will be getting. The process puts them in a safe zone and I get quality feedback. Once approved, I know the project will be a success because everyone (dev included) knows what needs to be delivered. Saving Changes...
Two of the biggest challenges with software projects (I'm assuming you mean "build" vs. purchase, implement and integrate) are:
1. Understanding what stakeholders really need
2. Having the right people at the right time with the right skills

All you need to know (just in case) has been written into "The Mythical Man-Month: Essays on Software Engineering" , Fred Brooks book. That´s in conjunction with Lehman's laws of software evolution. No more than that is needed. I earned a Ph.D with Major in Software Engineering in Cargnegie Mellon University so I have the possiblity to interact with them and others. Saving Changes...
