I see many possible similarities in the Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) development model with offshore development projects. It leads me to wonder how much of that FOSS model could be transferred, or has been already, to management of projects that rely on offshore resources, even if the project is not a software development project. I am thinking not necessarily of concurrent development of source and access to code, but more the distributive and collaborative nature of the tools used to manage the source. Say I have a project to create and run a non-profit that provides charitable activities on a global level, and the resources used to develop this non-profit are primarily offshore. Could use of similar tools to MediWiki or CollabNet provide a good base for these offshore teams to communicate and plan, or store document revisions for collaborative review? How do the offshore PMs out there handle their projects from the perspective of tools and communication? Thanks. Saving Changes...
