Quality function deployment and it's application in project management

Hello PM's,

I wanted to start a debate about the QFM tool and the different ways it can be employed in project management, what do you think?

QFD is a tool like many others (e.g. Kano, Design Thinking) which can be used to get better at hitting the mark with regards to customer needs. If the project is producing a product where the needs and wants aren't nailed down and where there are more ideas than budget or resources, then QFD is one way to narrow down the feature list.

QFD is mainly about the product not the project. But I agree if you say to me that you will use it for the solution as a whole. We use it in our projects but we found that do not adds value because what you obtain related to project is most of the time the same then you can convert it into project governance for example.

Thanks Sergio, i assume that by saying ( application of QFD tool in a project ) we mean how to get a product, which is one of the fruits of a project, how to get it done in a satisfactory way to the client, right?

What I tried to say is (based on I am using it from time ago mainly because people I have to interact with which are certified in quality): the key is to consider the solution where solution is the product/service/result to create plus the project to create it. Consider the project in isolation is not good because the sense to have a project is to create a product and project is defined with basement in the product. Projects are just a mean. As a well known person (a Guru) said me when he was my professor: people are not buying the product or the project. People are buying the assurance they will get what they need to achieve their objectives.
