Hi all! I just passed the PMI-ACP and ASM. I see many positions ask for a CSM certification. I also see there is PSM and SAFe. Which certifications do I REALLY need to keep myself marketable? At $1K a class I can see this getting very pricey.

What is your advise?

Thanks!

I have the same question. I just started looking into the different certifications and saw that SSGI offers a scrum certification but I'm not sure how widely recognized this is. I've been promoted recently to a PM position and I'm working on my PMP. If having this cert from SSGI is worthwhile then I would consider taking this training to earn both the 15 credits and the cert.

Congrats on passing the PMI-ACP and ASM.

PSM is a good Scrum certification and it’s gaining more and more popularity worldwide. No class needed, online test, no renewal fees. I highly recommend to go for it.

Douglas -

What roles and companies are you targeting? If the company you are looking at doesn't use Scrum or a Scrum-variant approach, certs tied to Scrum would be wasted.

To provide the greatest versatility, I'd suggest:
1. A Scrum-based cert - the cheapest you can find
2. A lean Kanban-based cert - the cheapest you can find
3. CDA/CDAP/DALSM - for scaled agile coverage

Disciplined Agile is a process decision-making toolkit providing multiple options and choices for teams and organizations wishing to be agile.

The CDA/CDAP/DALSM are progressive certifications which can be attained depending on how much agile experience you have.

Visit PMI's DA site for more info or better yet, take my DALSM workshop :-)

Have the EXACT same question! Thank you everyone for your answers. Will check out PSM, followed up CSM.

Am strongly considering the PMI-ACP too.

I'd actually recommend doing the opposite - CSM then PSM for one reason. You have to take the class to sit for the CSM and the exam is easier. You can take the PSM without paying for a class so if you take a quality CSM class you can knock out both certifications for less
If you need a class anyway (ie, you're new to Scrum, you want to learn more) - do the CSM. It's the most well known one and carries the most bang for the buck.

If you have the experience and just need the test for the credential do the PSM (exam is harder but it's only about $200 to take the test).

Susan, I agree. I am seeing the same thing.

After taking the PMI-ACP and the ASM (came as a package deal from Simplilearn), I need to rest my head! Also the thought of sitting through a 15 hour web class over two days makes my skin crawl!

Right now I am taking an AWS Solutions Architect Associate class. Found it is needed for some govt work. Though also 15 hours, I can stop and start it.
