I have been working around 7 years as PM in Telecom industry. Now I am looking for a new job and want to change industry towards finance and especially banks. In any job posting they ask requirements like proven experience in handling projects with banks or at least having diploma in finance. I got graduated as Electronics Engineer. It is supposed that any PM and especially PMP certified should have the ability to work in whatever industry ( Finance, construction, pharmacy, entertainment, etc... Ok now I am preparing in order to pass the PMP but how to be able to convince employers that I have the ability to take the challenge although never worked in that different industry while having only a PMP certification ? Thanks.

One thing you need to know and understand about recruiters - they work on keywords. Many have no understanding of different professions and they go purely on what the customer requested. If the customer said they want an 'agile' project manager and that is not your title then you are screwed.

Switching industries or even professions via a recruiter is very very difficult so good luck. Rather try making use of your network.
